How Might We
“ How might we develop a digital feature for Fazua's app that helps reduce bikers' Range Anxiety for more enjoyable riding experiences!“
Userflows
I researched on Fazua's app user flows and created the best way to integrate our feature into the existing app. The goal was to give interrupted flow for current user and provide simple and intuitive ways to use the feature. I had gone through multiple testings and interactions.
02 Designing
Ideation
I created quick sketches to visualize the interaction idea and user flow, utilizing these sketches as a tool for effective communication with stakeholders during the initial phase
Prototyping & Testing
I created interactive wireframe and used it to conduct usability testing. I used finding to evaluate the approach and iterated the design from there.
Design Iteration
During the iteration process, I continually refined the design based on user feedback. This involved making iterative improvements to enhance usability and functionality. Iterations were guided by user testing, new findings and stakeholder input to fine the best way to introduce Komoot integration into the app.
03 The Solution
AI Solution Concept
Keeping simple and intuitive approach in mind, I designed main screen experience to show everything users need to see at a glance. Using graphs and visualization to simplify complexed information. With train- AI model, the app can calculate and inform users if the battery will be sufficient for their planned trips.
AI powered "Range Calculator"
On Boarding
Introducing Fazua's user to the new feature with simple on boarding. Showing user the core features and presenting clear CTA to connect with their favourite app planner "Komoot app".
Finding the planned tours at a glance
Users can glance at an overview of the tours from Fazua homescreen. Giving quick access to planned tours. Picking one and start riding right away.
Integrating Komoot tours
Users can easily select their planned tour from Komoot in the Fazua app to calculate and assess the feasibility of the tour with just a few taps.
GPX support
If user prefer not to link Fazua account to Komoot. User can still use the feature by uploading a planned trip in GPX file.
Tour overview
User fitness level is selected based on their profile. Reviewing their tour route with the integrated map. From here the user can easily calculate the feasibility of their trip.
Using trained-AI model to calculate and provide suggestions
Based on the selected tour and user's fitness level, the AI model will calculate the bike battery range, then provide suggestions to the tour and display an estimated battery giving biker overview of the tour.
Design Library
Creating a design library for Fazua iOS app for our feature, making sure the design followed Fazua's design guidelines. With master components, I created consistent design across the app and made sure that the design was clean, simple and well structured
Personal Challenge
Time Constraint
With only a 3-month time scope using the Agile Design Method, we had only a month to work on product discovery, user research, and problem interviews before designing and iterating to build an MVP.
Unfamiliar product
The Fazua drive system is a pedal-assist type that only supports the rider when they pedal the bike, which is different from the Throttle-Only e-bike. Therefore, I had to learn about the product through research, Fazua’s employees, and user interviews.
Cross-functional and hybrid team setup
First time working in an agile cross-functional team, with a project manager, a designer, an AI engineer, and two software engineers in a hybrid setup. I joined the team on-site later in the last 2 weeks of the program. This emphasized how important effective communication and good team spirit are.
The Impact
Developed an MVP within 12 weeks
Working as the sole designer on the team was both challenging and a great learning experience. I was responsible for the entire process, from identifying problems to prototyping and testing, ultimately delivering the first MVP in just under 12 weeks.
Discovered AI feature for e-mountain biker
It was my first AI-featured product. This project challenged me to think critically about how AI could be leveraged to create more intuitive and add value to the product. Designing for AI, which was rather new at the time, was a big step. It opened up more opportunities to solve users' pain points in impactful ways, ultimately improving the overall user experience for Fazua e-mountain bikers.
